When we take a break, we’re not avoiding responsibilities, we are merely taking care of ourselves so we can do our best. According to Keith J.Cunningham (Author of The Road Less Stupid), “Most entrepreneurs and business owners are suffering from “burntout” and the core problem is because most of them don’t have their thinking time.

How many of us (entrepreneurs & business owners) sometimes rush around so hard and we’re so busy that when we get to the end of the week, we can’t even remember what have we been really up to. That’s one of the things Keith Cunningham wrote in his book (The Road Less Stupid). He says the core problem for why a lot of entrepreneurs have major challenges with the business, lost a lot of money, get really really sick & they lose their health is that a lot of entrepreneurs don’t have this thing called “THINKING TIME”.

When there is no thinking time, there is no stopping. So, why is stopping so important?

  1. If we’re moving all the time, we don’t have time to evaluate and review on our business. You may be amazed with what taking a break can do for you! When we’re well-rested, we don’t lose our temper and we don’t make bad decisions. We make clear decisions!
  2. We get to evaluate every single opportunity that comes toward us. You don’t miss out on the opportunity, you take a break and weight in the options on whether the opportunity is good for you.
  3. We don’t mix emotion and logic. Some people when they’re tired they make very emotional decisions. It just kills the entire objective because there’s just way too much emotion involved.
  4. You get to enjoy LIFE! Spend some time with your loved ones, go on a short vacation, have quality time with your family.

You see, the thing about thinking time is that it’s got to be designed. Our clients are doing a lot of thinking time when they meet with their coach. A coach is assigned to meet with them two to three times a month. That’s where they do a lot of structured thinking time with a coach.

Sometimes business owners and entrepreneurs generally need to have discipline. Like me, I’ve got a coach too and I design that thinking time so that it doesn’t get left up to chance. If I leave my thinking time to when I have nothing to do, I will have absolutely no thinking time to be very honest with you. I cannot remember the last time I had nothing to do and if you’re like me, you’re waiting for this “nothing to do” moment then let me tell you this, it ain’t gonna happen.

That’s why thinking time has to be designed. You would know if you read Keith’s book, it’s so awesome. He incorporates his thinking time into all five parts of his week. He would wake up in the morning, sits down on his thinking chair and he’s got a timer. He’s got it all broken down, he even has the questions that he’ll be asking himself. It is so structured. If you need help with that, you need to do yourself a favor and pick up this book – The Road Less Stupid or well just Get a Coach so you can avoid making very very costly mistakes in your business and your life.

Remember this, the journey to having a great business and a great life comes from first being able to pause and see if you are actually able to put a stop to all the busyness you have right now. The strangest and most ironic thing is that a lot of business people say that they want free time, they want the freedom, they want to stop and go for that holiday, spend time with their kids. But if we don’t design that in our lives and if we don’t think about how to make that happen then it’s never going to happen. It’s like we’re literally running on a huge hamster wheel called LIFE and really why business owners get exhausted and burrntout is because they don’t stop.

My highest and biggest encouragement for you is to give yourself a break and design your thinking time into your life.

Have a great business and have a great life because being in business is about having more life.
