I believe that employees are the backbone of a successful company. Take care of your employees and they will take care of your clients. Stronger and happier your people in work place the greater achievements will come forward to company’s way.

The question is how well do you know your employees? Do you know what their needs are and how to motivate them?

Let me share with you how I get to know my team members in the company.

#1. Encourage Open Communication

Many business owners are often surprised at the positive results they see after encouraging open communication. Team members appreciate that their voices are heard and that their ideas do contribute to the company’s growth and success. This motivates them to take ownership of their role in the company and be more connected to the business goals and you get to connect to your employees in a different level.

#2. Be a Motivating Coach, Not a Managing Boss

There is a saying, “employees don’t leave their company, they leave their manager.” Manager has a big impact on employee engagement and retention. What I would suggest you to do is to Stop Managing. Instead, aim at inspiring and motivating your employees to reach their potential. Employees want more than just an order, they want to be coached and nurtured. By asking questions on Why and How they tackle a problem, you get to understand your employees better.  When your employees see you as a motivator, they’ll push themselves to new limits, go above and beyond and stay loyal in your company.

#3. Using Feedback/Suggestion boxes

You can get insight into what things are important to your employees by using surveys, suggestion boxes and also in team meetings. Be open-minded and encourage them to express their ideas and perspectives without consequences. Practice everything you have learned about effective listening and being okay to getting feedback. This shows your employee that you are willing to listen and you care. Be interested and provide feedback so your employees know the message was received. Address their concerns in the best way you can.

#4. Using Behavioral Tools.

These tests are important to understand what drives the performance and productivity of every employee. It helps to measure the business owners and their team’s personalities, behavioral styles, motivations, interests, and values. There are many type of behavioural assessments out there, be sure to choose one that is suitable and works for you.

I chose AccuMatch Behavior Intelligence because the assessments help me and my clients to find the right people to do the right tasks leading to better-performing teams. I also get to understand the natural programmed responses and what behavioral considerations the team will need to make or adjust to be effective together.

#5.  Get Out of the Office and Have Fun

This idea is the most fun. Simply get out of the office and have some fun with your team. It is as simple as getting a quick coffee outside the office. Socializing outside of office is an effective way to getting to know your employees better. Bonding with your team outside of the office can lead to stronger working relationships, employee feels more relax and is to open up more. Make it a priority to spend some quality time with your employees outside of work and let’s see how it works for you.

Knowing and understanding your employees’ work styles and personalities is key to fostering a successful employee-employer relationship. Try these five tips and you will be on your way to boosting accountability and performance in your company. Motivating your employees does not have to be a challenge anymore.

I recently received a question and decided to record an unplugged version of the video, it is about having “slow-paced” employees..check it out!
